Odd and Even numbers, by Mrs Chidgey

Date: 23rd Jan 2022 @ 11:46pm

12.1.22

As part of our work on Place Value to 20, we have been looking at which numbers between 11 and 20 are odd and which are even. We know that odd numbers have one left over so we have been building our numbers using base 10 equipment on our place value charts to see if they had one left over or not. Physically using both our hands to place the ones on the chart helped us to identify if a number had one left over or not.

Writing
In our grammar lesson this week, we were concentrating on writing sentences with capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. The focus of our writing was to describe a snowy scene with some interesting adjectives. The children worked independently to create some super sentences.

Completing our RE unit on Christmas, by Mrs Chidgey

Date: 23rd Jan 2022 @ 2:56am

RE
To finish off our RE unit about Christmas, we retold the story we had learned before our Christmas holiday to remind ourselves of the main events. Then we thought about the arrival of the Wise Men, their journey and the gifts they brought for Jesus. We wrote a set of questions we would have liked to ask the Wise Men about the part they played in the beautiful story of the birth of Jesus.

A royal garden party, by Mrs Chidgey

Date: 23rd Jan 2022 @ 2:53am

7.1.22
A royal garden party
We introduced our new topic of Bright Lights, Big City today and began by watching a video clip about Queen Elizabeth II. The children were all then given an invitation to attend a royal garden party, in the afternoon, to celebrate the Queen’s long reign over the United Kingdom. Unfortunately the Queen wasn’t able to attend our garden party and due to the weather we had to hold our garden party indoors rather than outdoors. However the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We dressed in our smartest clothes for the occasion, we decorated the classroom with Union Jack bunting and the tables were covered with table clothes and gold patterned plates, cups and napkins, We practised bowing and curtseying for the Queen, we listened to the National Anthem and discussed the formal and polite behaviour and table manners that would be expected from the people attending the Queen’s real garden parties.

Transient Art Weather Motifs, by Mrs Chidgey

Date: 23rd Jan 2022 @ 2:52am

6.1.22
Transient Art Weather Motifs
We began our new Art topic ‘Rain and Sunrays’ this afternoon. We began by looking at a range of weather motifs similar to the symbols you see on a weather report. We then looked at some examples of transient art for each of the motifs and matched up each symbol to the corresponding artwork. The children then had a go at creating their own weather motifs using a range of both natural and man-made materials. They had to think if they needed to have curved lines or straight lines and how they could use the resources available to create the shapes and lines they needed.
Here are some photos of the brilliant pieces of work they created. More photos can be found on our class page on the school website.

Worship in Church, by Mrs Chidgey

Date: 23rd Jan 2022 @ 2:47am

6.1.22

Worship in Church
It was lovely to go into church for our worship all about Epiphany today. The children always enjoy being in church and Year 6 did a great job of leading worship and telling us all about the important event of Epiphany and the arrival of the wise men at the stable. Our trip to church was made even more special as we discovered it was snowing slightly when we were leaving. We took a few moments to enjoy feeling the snow falling around us on the playground before we went back into our classroom. God’s world really is amazing and it was nice to take a moment to feel awe and wonder at how special His creation is.

First Day Back, by Mrs Chidgey

Date: 23rd Jan 2022 @ 2:40am

5.1.22
First Day Back
The children have had a great first day back in school. It has been lovely to hear all about their lovely times over the Christmas holidays and they have enjoyed catching up with their friends. We have settled back into the expectations and routines of school really well and have had a very productive day. In maths, we have started looking at place value for numbers 11 - 20 and enjoyed creating these numbers using Numicon to show they are all ten and a bit (please see the photos below). In RWI, the children have moved into their new groups and we have changed their reading books so they match these groups. Please have a look for these in the children’s bags and encourage them to read them at home as often as possible (every day if they can). In our RE lesson, we have recapped on the story of the Nativity so far, in preparation for Epiphany and the arrival of the Wise Men tomorrow. The children wrote down the story using pictures to support their recall and many of them earned merits for their fantastic effort. We also started our new unit in PSHE which is all about keeping healthy.
