Welcome to Year 3

This term our topic is 'Through the Ages'

Children will learn about what life was like in Stone Age Britain right up to the Iron Age. . We will find out about the introduction of metals to this country and how this changed the lives of the people here.

We will find out all about  constructions such as Stonehenge and the discoveries at Skara Brae and how these tell us stories about our past.

We will also be learning about:

Science: Animal nutrition and the skeletal system: We will learn bout the importance of nutrition for humans and other animals. They learn about the role of a skeleton and muscles and identify animals with different types of skeleton.

RE:  Harvest: We will consider the festival of Harvest and its history as well as celebrations that are similar in other religions.

Art: Contrast and Complement : We will learn about colour theory by studying the colour wheel and colour mixing. It includes an exploration of tertiary colours, warm and cool colours, complementary colours and analogous colours, and how artists use colour in their artwork.

Design Technology: Cook Well, Eat Well: This project teaches children about food groups and the Eatwell guide. They learn about methods of cooking and explore these by cooking potatoes and ratatouille. The children choose and make a taco filling according to specific design criteria.

For more information on our curriculum, please see the curriculum tab on our homepage.

Pick and Mix

Your child will bring home their Pick and Mix linked to their topic. Pick and Mix projects are suggested activities that help to inspire children beyond the classroom. Each activity provides an opportunity for children to explore their topic further using a number of different skills. When children have finished a project, they can bring this into school where each class will have a designated time to celebrate the learning that has taken place. Projects can stay in school and be displayed on each class’s working wall or can be taken home.

If you have any questions about how to further support your child's learning at home, please contact your child's class teacher via Class Dojo or the school office.
