On Monday we had a great day at Turton Tower. In the morningwe pretended that we were in a Victorianclassroom and in theafternoon we got to play with old toys and some Victorian parlour games.

Ribchester Roman Museum 21.6.23, by Mr Nolan

On Wednesday 21st June, Year 3 had a wonderful day out in Ribchester. We found out about the Roman town that became Ribchester. Roman cavalry soldiers were there to guard the river and the crossing of some early Roman roads. We tried on armour, asked lots of questions, handled real 2,000 year old artefacts and even had a catapult fire at us (miniature). We learnt a lot and enjoyed using our topic knowledge.

This afternoon we have been busy creating our own SupermarketSalad. Yesterday we planned ouringredients and today wecreated our own salads. We chose between raspberries,blueberries, strawberries,lettuce, carrots and tomatoes. They alldid extremely well at chopping, slicing, mashing, grating andeatingtheir own salads.

During our afternoon learning with ‘Sunshine and Sunflowers’ Reception have explored growth and plants through the story Errol’s Garden by Gillian Hibbs. They planned their own community garden for Reception by considering what items and tools we might need such as soil, seeds, trowel, water, plant pots, watering cans!

This afternoon Reception have all helped to plant some seeds and we hope to care for them and see some beautiful flowers and plants blossom ?

This morning we had a super time recreating The Great Fire ofLondon with Divergent Drama. We got to join inthe story, beimportant characters from the story and to wear lots of different costumes.

D&T Making our wheels, axles and chassis., by Miss Collier

In D&T we are getting ready to make our own London buses. On Wednesday we spent the afternoon practicing putting together our wheels, axles and chassis. We tested the finished product before we analysed what we had built. 
We also designed what our final bus would look like so we are ready to build our London bus.

Our famous scientist we have researched and learnt about this week is Mary Anning; a famous fossil hunter and palaeontologist who’s findings are displayed and recognised in the Natural History Museum in London! ? ? ? ?‍?

British Science Week: Tractors

We learnt how tractors work, what they do and what materials they are made from. We also explored how tractors are connected to space! ?

 

A big thank you to our wonderful parent who joined us in Reception to talk about her job as a nurse! ?? We loved looking at real tools and equipment and also shared our own stories of visiting the doctors office and nurse. 

We were Nature Detectives and explored the great outdoors using all of our senses??‍??? ? ? We didn’t let the rain stop us as we looked and listened for signs of wildlife, with lots of commenting on the different birds that we spotted and heard. We discussed their habitats and what they would need to make a nest ? ? When asked if we might see a fox and badger in the woodland den, we remembered that these animals are nocturnal and we could see this at night ? ? On our walk we identified the signs of early spring, where beautiful daffodils had grown. We talked about the rainy weather and how this had made the grass super muddy. Some of us commented that we could hear the wind and smell the rain ?? ? #britishscienceweek

How are tractors connected to space?

On Tuesday we watched a live zoom with the NFU all about farming and tractors. We learnt how tractors are connected to space and what they are made out of. 
We really enjoyed it and loved getting involved in the activities they had organised. 

13.3.23 -Making our own Barometer, by Miss Collier

In pairs this today our Science experiment  was to build a Barometer. We made our own Barometer to measure the air pressure. When the pressure is higher the water in the tube will rise meaning the weather should be warmer, the less water in the tube means low pressure and more chance of rain.

This week is British Science week and to start the week off we had a talk off Mrs Kos who helps to design and build hospitals. Mrs Kos told us how she uses Science in her job every day when designing hospitals for doctors and nurses.

In PSHE this week we have been talking about our physical interactions with others. We have discussed that even though some interactions are meant to be fun they can sometimes feel like they are not fun for the person receiving them. Following on from our discussion, we identified ways that we can seek help and who we can approach for help if a situation leaves us feeling uncomfortable, hurt or upset.
