Digestive System

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 4 Year: 2023 - 2024

Today, in small groups, we made our very own digestive system! We looked at the parts of teh digfestive system and then brought the functions to life using the resources. We used:

1 banana

1 slice of bread

cup of orange juice

cup of water

1 pop sock

bowl (option of plastic bag)

1. First we pretended to eat the food and swallow it.

2. Then we mushed up the 4 ingredients in the bowl using our hands, whch was our stomach contracting and relaxing.

3. We added the mushed up food into the pop sock - acting as the small intestine. We pushed the liquid our into the bowl. This was the water and nutrients our body absorbs.

4. We then pushed the mush to the end of the sock, like the large intestine.

5. Finally we cut a small hole in the end of the sock and excreted the waste from the anus!
