How Light Travels...

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 6 Year: 2022 - 2023

Our lesson this week was about how light travels. We discussed light travelling in straight light waves and how light can sometimes be reflected. We then proved our thinking by carrying out two investigations:

  1. We had x4 pieces of card with a hole in. We shone the torch towards the holes onto the whiteboard. We found that we must align all the cards with the holes in the same place to allow the light to pass through the cards to the whiteboard.
  2.  Then we used a laser light to reflect off mirrors onto the whiteboard. We managed to align 2 mirrors around the room to get the light to shine onto the whiteboard. We found this quite hard to angle the mirrors correctly and to get enough space between us to reflect to another but we perserved and got there! We also discussed how to use the laser safely.
