Sound Waves

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 4 Year: 2022 - 2023

Today we have been learning about sound waves. A sound wave is created by an objects vibrations creating waves. This wave is a movement of energy travelling through a medium - air, lliquid or solid as it spreads from the source of the sound which goes into our ear.  We have been looking at what a sound wave looks like, the peak and trough of the sound wave show whether the sound is loud or quiet and the length of wave shows whether the picth is high or low. We then went on an environmental walk and listened for different sounds. We discussed the sound waves for a dog barking, a bird tweeting, the wind, a train, an aeroplane and church bells ringing. We discussed the direction of the sound and which ear was closest to the sound.
