Testing Water Resistance

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 5 Year: 2023 - 2024

Today we investigated whether shape and size affect water resistance. We created a cuboid disc which was our control (variable we didn't change) and a shape (variable we did change) of the same mass as the control. The shapes we chose were sphere, square based pyramid and triangular based prism and a cylinder. We dropped the two shapes at the same time to see which had the greater water resistance.

We found out the cuboid disc, the control, always had the greater water resistance as it had the greater surface area in comparison to the chosen shapes as they were made more streamlined so had less water resistance.
